No state income tax in Maine?
Gov. Paul LePage says he hopes to make it a reality in the Pine Tree State if he is elected for a second term.
“The fact that we have an income tax at all is a massive disadvantage,” LePage said.
Page floated the idea of eliminating a state levy on income at a meeting on tax policy, The Bangor Daily News reports.
The nine states that currently do not levy an income tax are Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, Wyoming, New Hampshire, and Tennessee.
LePage and Travis Brown, a no-tax advocate he invited to speak, presented evidence that those states have enjoyed a net gain of $140 billion in wealth between 1995 and 2010.
